Hello Hi Namaste,
Today I am going to show you how to make Yomari, which is called Rice Flour Dumpling in English. Yomari is a key part of the festival Yomari Punhi in Newari culture. It is a very famous dish, and it is very delicious to eat as well.

Ingredients required:- 

  1. Finely grinded rice flour 
  2. Molasses sugar (soaked in water for half an hour) 
  3. Kurauni 
  4. Ghee 
  5. Roasted brown sesame powder. 

To make Yomari,a steamer is used as how Momo is steamed.
To make a dough, At first boil the water.

  • Now put the finely grinded flour in a bowl. 
  • Add 2 tablespoon of ghee. 
  • Now put a liitle amount of boiled water in it. 
  • Do not touch with your hand for the water is too hot. 
  • You can use a spoon to mix it. 
  • Continue the process of putting small amount of water and then mixing again and again. 
  • Now after the water cools down, You can mix the flour easily. Do not put much water in the dough. 
  • But make it a soft dough. 
Now the molasses sugar is cooked on the gas for few minutes until the water is dried but not fully. Now the roasted sesame powder is kept in the molasses sugar and mixed in it. This is used for filling in Yomari.
Also out a small amount of ghee in hot water in another bowl which is used later for making yomari.
  • Now the soft dough is taken. 
  • A medium amount of dough is taken and with the palm of your hands, roll it as shown in video. 
  • Make it pointed at one side and flat at the other end. 
  • From the flat side make a fine hole inserting your index finger, and rotate it with the other hand. 
  • At first make all the Yomari then put the fillings to make it easy for you. 
  • Now to avoid sticking of Yomari, the steamer is rubbed with oil. 
  • Then the Yyomari is filled with the molasses sugar with the spoon. 
  • After filling it, with the help of index finger and thumb it is rotated and closed. 

It is made into a typical shape as shown in video. Make all the Yomari in similar way.
Similarly put the Kurauni also in the same method.
Steam the Dumpling in the steamer for 15-20 minutes. 

Finally the YOMARI is ready to be served.
